Aarohana Trails maintains an industry-leading safety record. These guidelines exist to protect you, your fellow trekkers, and our Trek Leaders. Please read them carefully before your departure.
Before the Trek
Physical Preparation
- Begin a fitness routine at least 6 weeks before your trek: walk 5+ km daily, add stair climbing and light strength training.
- Ensure you can walk with a 5–8 kg backpack for 5–7 hours continuously.
Medical Screening
- Complete the health disclosure form honestly — it is for your safety, not a barrier to participation.
- Consult your physician if you have a history of cardiac, respiratory, or joint conditions.
- Carry a 30-day supply of any regular medications and inform your Trek Leader.
Gear Check
- Ankle-support trekking boots (broken in — not new) are mandatory.
- Your Trek Leader will inspect your footwear at the trailhead. Inappropriate footwear is grounds for declining participation.
On-Trek Medical Equipment
Every Aarohana Trails expedition carries a certified first aid kit, altitude sickness medications (Diamox and Dexamethasone), and a satellite communicator for routes without cellular coverage.
On the Trail
- Stay with the group — Never hike ahead of the lead guide or fall behind the sweep guide.
- Hydration — Drink 3–4 litres per day. Do not wait until you feel thirsty.
- Alert your leader — Report any symptom immediately, including headache, nausea, or unusual breathlessness.
- No solo photography detours — Always inform the group before stepping off the main trail.
Wildlife Encounters
- In the event of a large mammal sighting (elephant, gaur, leopard), stop moving immediately and wait for your Trek Leader's instructions.
- Never run from a wildlife encounter — remain calm and back away slowly.
- Report all snake sightings to the Trek Leader immediately.
Emergency Procedures
- Your Trek Leader carries a full emergency action plan for every route.
- Emergency contact numbers are shared in the pre-trek briefing SMS/email.
- In a medical emergency, the Trek Leader will initiate evacuation procedures and coordinate with local Forest Department authorities.
